Newton Lake in Camden County, New Jersey, has been successfully dredged and restored thanks to a massive effort by Mobile Dredging & Video Pipe and the Camden County Municipal Utilities Authority. The lake, which runs through three towns in the county, had become clogged with silt in recent years, causing its depth to drop to just two feet or less in some areas. The more than two-year project was one of the costliest environmental projects in Camden County’s history, but was necessary to maintain the safety and integrity of the lake and its surrounding areas.
Mobile Dredging and Video Pipe, a Carylon company, was responsible for the dredging, dewatering, and final disposal of 295,663 cubic yards of sediment and vegetation. The work included five lake sections to be dredged and dewatered, two ponds to be mechanically dredged, two separate dewatering sites to mobilize and demobilize, and the restoration of dewatering sites and construction entrances.
Overall, the project was a success and Newton Lake now runs clear once again with a depth of about five feet.
